BWINDI IMPENATRABLE NATIONAL PARK
Bwindi Impenatrable National Park offers the possibility to visit the rare Mountain Gorillas in their natural environment. To find them you will first have to hike through the forest. Depending on the group you will be trekking and their movements during the day this hike can take between 30 minutes and 2,5 hours.
The Gorillas can be visited through 4 gates, which form the entry points to the forest.
In the Northern part of the forest the gate is named Buhoma. It is the starting point for visits to three different family groups, named Habinyanja, Mubare and Rushegura. Coming from Kihihi Airstrip, this gate is the nearest. The drive there takes only 2 hours.
In the Eastern part of the park you will find the Ruhija gate where you can trek only two of the 3 habituated groups. The 3rd group is only habituated for research purposes. The drive there from Kihihi Airstrip takes 2.5 hour. The family groups habituated here are Bitakura and Oruzogo.
In the Southern part the gate is named Rushaga and it offers the possibility to visit one of the four family groups there, named Nshongi, Bweza, Mishaya and Kahungye. The drive there from Kisoro Airstrip is 1.5hours
Still in the Southern part you can also start your trekking experience from the Nkuringo gate. This gate hosts only one family group, namedNkuringo. The drive there should take 1.5 hours from Kisoro Airstip.
